Are you ready for some American Ninja Warrior?!?!! My boys absolutely LOVES this show and we will be tuned in with hosts Matt Iseman, Akbar Gbajabiamila (former NFL player) and co-host Kristine Leahy. Be sure to watch his highly anticipated, heart-racing competition TONIGHT 8/7c on NBC!
Earlier this year… Yours Truly was able to visit the set right here in Atlanta and I literally had to sneak out of the house while the boys were playing. LOL! Of course they would die to come with me but we already had a sleepover planned with 10 of their little buddies and I couldn’t bring them all. So I hopped in my car to get a sneak peak of all the action.
I’ve been holding on to footage for so long… I’m about to burst! Being able to have a one on one with host Akbar Gbajabiamila who spent 5 years in the NLF… was like having an outter body experience. I was a little taken back at how friendly, tall &….. well you know what I mean. 🙂
We asked how football compares to this competition… “The biggest factor is problem solving… I’ve tried 3 of these obstacles including the “Dancing Stone” and it is also quite stressful. But I wanted to know if I still had it”. -Akbar
Gbajabiamila is one of seven children of Nigerian immigrants. His first name means “great” in Arabic and last name means “big man come save me,” which derives from his paternal great-great-grandfather — an impressive man who stood 7-feet tall and was the moderator in the village in which he lived.
Gbajabiamila has always lived an active lifestyle, one that combined social consciousness with athletic success. An undrafted NFL free agent in 2003, Gbajabiamila signed with the Oakland Raiders and spent two seasons with the silver and black, before moving on to spend time with both the San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins. All the time in professional football Gbajabiamila was looking for what was next in his non-playing career, and how he could use those skills and assets to help others. In 2005, he was selected as one the NFL’s first athletes to join their Broadcast Boot Camp, which was held at NFL Films in Mount Laurel, N.J., and designed to give 20 players a short and rigorous look into the skills needed to embark on a broadcast or journalism career after their playing days were over.
After retiring in 2008, Gbajabiamila turned his focus to television, serving as an analyst for the NFL Network and joining “American Ninja Warrior.” In 2012, he co-starred in a Funny Or Die skit “Internet Cops with Nnamdi Asomugha.” Later this year Gbajabiamila will star in his first feature film, “The Sac Fly”… a socially conscious movie about a child’s life placed in the hands of a hateful man Gbajabiamila is married with four kids and a dog.
Y’all… check out my “shout out” from Akbar. Whoo Hoo!! And stay tuned for MORE American Ninja Warrior highlights from It’s RobinLoriNOW 🙂
